6 Prominent Platforms to Consider for Building an Ecommerce Website

ECommerce has come an extremely long way over the past few years. Now, not only has buying over the internet become much easier, selling over the internet is getting simpler too.  We now have several ECommerce platforms that provide functions ranging from simple to highly complex shopping modules, inventory management systems, logistics applications, and much more, but this question keeps confusing future owners of online stores, which platform is best for their Ecommerce business?  This decision becomes harder because each platform has its own advantages and disadvantages. Here we have outlined 6 prominent ECommerce content management systems by our opinion, in no particular order. OsCommerce – OsCommerece is known as open source commerce, it is a freely offered eCommerce platform under the GNU General Public License, and can be used in PHP/MySQL environments. OsCommerce includes features such as: multi-lingual with English, Spanish & German, unlimited product and category support, dynamic product attribute & HTML based, product descriptions, automated website display on home page, PHP 4 compatibility with backward compatibility. 

WordPress E-commerce - Wordpress is one of the most popular CMSs in the world and it has a wide range of free shopping cart plug-ins that can be used to make various websites including a variety of features. Its unique selling points are : hundreds of unique themes, popular payment gateways, Google Analytics, PDF Invoices and Packing Slips, SEO, custom product tabs.

Joomla +VirtueMart - Joomla is an open source CMS that can be used to build any type of website. VirtueMart is an open source eCommerce solution. It is ideal for medium level traffic website. Virtuemart is designed to be used together with Joomla.
